Taste Buds provides services for a wide range of feeding and eating problems for babies, toddlers and children.  Some of the types of feeding difficulties that we see include:

  • Extreme fussy or picky eating

  • Breastfeeding difficulties

  • Bottle feeding problems, including bottle refusal

  • Trouble with biting and chewing (oral motor difficulties)

  • Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

  • Trouble with swallowing (dysphagia)

  • Gagging, choking on food and drink

  • Oral aversion

  • Food phobia or fear of eating and trying food (food neophobia)

  • Medical conditions resulting in eating or feeding issues (eg reflux, tongue tie, laryngomalacia, premature birth)

  • Tube dependency and tube weaning

Assessment Options

Parent-Clinician Consultation:

  • Conducted over the phone or face-to-face (no child present)

  • Brief case history

  • Collaborative problem solving & advice provided

Please note that there is no obligation to book an Assessment afterwards.

Initial Assessment:

  • Case history

  • Oral motor examination

  • Swallow assessment, including cervical auscultation (analysis of the swallow using a stethoscope)

  • Observation of a mealtime / feed

  • An ‘action plan’ to take home with you on the day of the appointment

  • Handouts suited to your child's needs

A written report can be arranged for an additional fee. 

 

Review:

Please note that the group sessions run dependent on numbers available to attend.

Talks / Lectures​

Parent Workshops:

Taste Buds Parent Workshops are designed for Mother’s Groups, Playgroups, Antenatal groups and other parent groups.  Workshops run for one to one and a half hours (dependent on the topic), and is delivered in an engaging and interactive way.  Workshops include handouts and resources, activities, easy to remember information, and practical strategies that you can use straight away.  Workshops can be held at your Mother’s group, Playgroup, at home or even at the park!  Minimum group numbers apply (minimum of six attendees).

 

Choose from one of the following topics for your parent workshop.

  • Baby Foodies (1 hr)

This workshop is designed for babies under 12 months old and covers everything food-related for you and your child! Find out about starting solids, finger foods, infant nutrition, puree Vs Baby Led Weaning, choking hazards, allergies and more. Includes fun activities and handouts too.

  • Fussy Eating (1.5 hrs)

Have you got a picky eater that is driving you mad?  This workshop focuses on understanding why children can be fussy eaters, and what you can do as a parent to lessen the stress of having a picky eater whilst also helping your child to learn to eat more foods.

  • Brainy Babies (1 hr)

The Brainy Babies workshop is all about ways you can help your baby develop their early talking skills.  The workshop teaches you about strategies to encourage language development, home-made toys, the power of nursery rhymes AND it also includes the basics of Baby Sign.

Holly is also available to provide presentations or workshops on a variety of modules for your professional group, including;​
